It’s amazing how much of the sting of aging is blunted by hearing someone express familiar/relatable outdated medical practice we’ve lived through. When I was a resident, the concept of discharging DVT, PE, and new-onset atrial fibrillation from the ED was an unheard of, “maybe someday” concept. Warfarin doesn’t kick in for two days, who would ever prescribe outpatient SQ heparin, and what’s a DOAC? PE was a Jordan-level slam-dunk admission back in the day.
