Forearm nerve blocks provide targeted anesthesia of the hand for complex laceration repairs, abscess drainage, fracture care, and pain control during hand procedures. In this video, Dr. Nir Lavi-Romer, an emergency medicine resident at NYU Langone and Bellevue Hospital, walks through ultrasound-guided radial, median, and ulnar nerve blocks. He reviews the sensory territory each nerve supplies, how each nerve appears on ultrasound, where to place the probe, and how to advance the needle in plane to surround the nerve with anesthetic. Safety points run throughout: never needle the nerve itself, aspirate before injecting, stop for pain or high resistance, and track the total anesthetic dose. The illustrations and ultrasound images are original Core EM teaching simulations.
